Saving Water In Your Dallas Bathroom Is Fun

Saving Water Is Fun - Atlas Plumbing In Dallas

As we begin 2019, Atlas Plumbing, your favorite Dallas Plumber already has plans to encourage water conservation in our city. For over 75 years, our wonderful clients have been aware of the importance of saving water and making conservation and sustainability a reality for our Dallas communities. Atlas believes that learning to conserve water is easy. Atlas Plumbing also believes that it is only a matter of using the water we need more efficiently. Our topic today deals with how you can save water this year in your bathroom.

Saving Water In The Bathroom: There is always a way to conserve water in your home. Doing the laundry, running the dishwasher, watering your lawn, filling the pool if you have one, and flushing the toilet are the most invasive uses of water in the home. For many years we have educated our Dallas friends on what the EPA and WaterSense Products can do for you in the national goal of decreasing water usage in our nation.

Our goal today is to begin the year by reminding you what a great job you have begun in past years to meet water usage goals, and in addition to encourage you on more tips in your residentail home on saving water in your bathroom. So let's get started.

Tips On Saving Water In Your Bathroom:

Toilets: We will begin here as toilets can be the highest water user in the home. Were you aware that the American Water Works Association (AWWA) has estimated that toilets use the most water indoors at an average of 20 gallons per person per day? The figures are staggering. It adds up to 7,200 gallons per person per year. The good news is that toilet technology and engineering has come a long way since 1994. High efficiency toilets (HETs) are more powerful than older toilets and use only 1.28 gallons per flush. This is an awesome way to begin in 2019 with your new sustainability goals.

Age Of Your Toilet Matters: The older the toilet, the more water you can save by getting a replaced today. Toilets older than 1994 use between 3 and 5 gallons per flush. Some very old toilets use up to 7 gallons per flush! By installing one of these new HETs you can save over 4,000 gallons per person per year. If you are a Dallas Water Utilities customer you may qualify for a voucher to help replace up to two toilets in your home. If you go to hhttps://savedallaswater.com/ and click to "Go to our New Throne for Your Home Toilet Replacement Program page" you will find out all the information on the current Dallas toilet replacement program. This is available to all Dallas proper residents.

Identify Leaks In Each Bathroom: Be sure and check all your toilets for leaks, then make sure you call Atlas Plumbing your favorite plumber in Dallas to repair them promptly. All toilets frequently leak around the flapper valve, and sadly could be wasting 200 gallons or more per day. To check for leaks, put a few drops of food coloring in the tank of your toilet. Do not flush the toilet for 10 to 15 minutes. After that time, if the bowl shows traces of food coloring, you have a leak. The flapper valve of the toilet should be checked in this manner at least once a year, or placed on your home checklist when you do regular quarterly maintenance for your home. Calling Atlas to replace the flapper valve with the correct size for your toilet is something we are happy to do with a simple call. Speaking with one of our qualified staff at (972) 243-8051 means you can "Trust The Best" to begin that water saving process in January.

Bathing In Tubs & Showers: Atlas encourages every Dallas resident to consider taking shorter showers and install a low-flow showerhead (one that dispenses less than 3 gallons per minute). Massive savings mount up to increased savings to you in paying much less for your next water bill. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the average family could save 2,900 gallons per year by installing WaterSense® labeled showerheads. These products provide a satisfactory shower that is equal to or better than conventional showerheads on the market. You can have an invigorating shower, with no reduction in water pressure and still use half the water of a less efficient showerhead. Newer showerheads have switches that allow you to stop the water flow while soaping up or washing your hair.

Leading manufacturers here in the USA are at the peak of their game in offering to you the retail consumer the best WaterSense labeled plumbing products available for your home. These widely varying options for plumbing parts like showerheads, toilets, faucets, urinals, bidets, and more have standard EPA rated success of savings. They guarantee that when you decide to begin you and your family's personal plan to save yourself more money in Water Use; not only are you receiving quality products, and that the technology is state of the art and the best your money can buy. So why not consider a full home improvement campaign in 2019 that includes us here at Atlas Plumbing. Trust the best to help you formalize a plan of action in your home that spreads the cost out over time during the whole year replacing older fixtures to the new WaterSense quality products you have been reading about for your home.

Saving Water In Your Kitchen & Laundry Room

Yes, sadly the second largest user of water inside the home is the washing machine and all of us have one. Usage is upwards of 30 to 40 gallons of water per load, depending on what type of washer you have. When it is time to replace your current washer, Atlas invites you to consider a high efficiency model. They use only 12 to 15 gallons per load and are also able to extract more water from your clothes before they go into the dryer. These highly efficient WaterSense models not only save water, but reduce the costs for heating water and drying laundry as well so you are saving on 2 fronts, not just one. Don't forget that by washing only full loads you can also limit water usage and thereby make quick work of getting all that laundry done easily. If you only have a few items, be sure touse the smaller load setting on your washer.

Please Repair Leaking Faucets: The AWWA estimates almost 14 percent of our indoor water use is lost to leaks. This unprecedented amount of water means you are throwing money down the drain. A slow drip can waste over 7,000 gallons per year. Often those drips can be stopped by simply replacing a washer, adding a aerater, or finding a new WaterSense model you love that will begin your remodel process over time this year.

What is an aerator? By installing a faucet aerator on every faucet in your home, you are paying yourself back for all the loss these past years. Aerators are inexpensive and can reduce the amount of water used by as much as 50 percent. Estimates state that faucets use 10 gallons per person per day, so an aerator could save 1,825 gallons per year per person. This is astounding!

Other Water Saving Solutions

Using less water when brushing your teeth, bathing your pet, using a pressure washer outside to remove debris is just the tip of the iceberg in moving into water conservation and sustainability in your home. Remember never to try to use your sinks or toilets for pouring grease or oil down a drain. You will clog your drain or waste a great deal of water trying to get the grease down your pipes.
For more information about what to do with your cooking oil and grease, visit the Dallas Water Utilities’ Grease Abatement Program page and take action now. By rinsing your hand washing you can both wash and rinse in pan in the sink and not have to run so much water. If you drink a lot of water, be sure to use a Brita or some other product. And remember that dishwashers can be WaterSense products that can be used to save you more money and complete fuller loads. Latest tech stats say they use about 15 gallons of water per use. With dishwasher drawers, and state of the art racks that can be moved and changed inside you can work with your particular needs each time you wash your dishes.

Atlas Plumbing is still one of the most highly regarded Dallas based Green Plumber, and we continue to believe by employing both current and new technology you can save and directly impact the environment in a positive manner.

Think about that for a minute. In the average 2 bedroom 2 bath home, each has an average of 10 faucets, 2 toilets, a shower, a dishwasher, a bathtub, washing machine, and sprinklers. Sounds like a lot doesn't it. Right now count how many water use products you have in your home. How many of these are WaterSense? Now ask yourself how can you save the environment by helping your home or business? Go Green With Atlas of course.

Trust The Best At Atlas Plumbing. Our qualified and caring staff can show you how to implement environmental products and save you money by "Going Green". More importantly, you will be extremely surprised how much you can save if you just make that first leap.

Atlas Plumbing arranged for a subcontractor, who does tunneling, to came out and dig an 18 foot tunnel under the patio and under the house. Other plumbing companies wanted to tear up the patio. Atlas replaced the broken line and then trenched out to the city sewer and laid a new pipe. After the inspector approved the work, they did an excellent job of packing the dirt back into the tunnel and covered the trench.
